初、明了陰功能。室能覆蓋，故表五陰。欲彰智相，須明了陰。於陰達中，故雙非二邊。「不為」下，釋自然。中智不被二邊所作，良由此智不作二邊，故本來覺性任運現前。「不得」下，釋廣博。微有所得，即當局狹。「非直」下，釋嚴事。小智無常，離過而已，終歸灰滅。大覺本有，過河沙德，自然莊嚴。

First, explaining the function of understanding the aggregates. A room can cover and shelter; hence it represents the five aggregates. To display the mark of wisdom, one must understand the aggregates. Penetrating the middle in the aggregates, one therefore transcends both extremes. From "not made" down, explaining spontaneity. Wisdom of the middle is not made by the two extremes, precisely because this wisdom does not produce the two extremes; hence the original nature of enlightenment naturally manifests before one. From "inapprehensible" down, explaining vastness and breadth. If there is even the slightest apprehension, it would then be narrow and confined. From "not merely" down, explaining adornment. Small wisdom is impermanent; it merely departs from faults and ultimately returns to ash and extinction. Great enlightenment is fundamentally existent, surpassing merits as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, naturally adorned.
