First, citing sūtras and books to show this. When mindfulness is deep and vast, it is like the great ocean. Repenting within this is called bathing. Subsuming all practices is called using various waters. This illustrates repenting to obtain prajñā. Evil karma from beginningless time is tied to the practitioner, just like a creditor. Seeing the true mark of karma is called relying upon and taking refuge in the king. Karma transforming in accordance with contemplation is called returning to make offerings. This illustrates repenting to obtain liberation. The nature of mind is unsurpassed, just like the top of a wall. The initial mind penetrating the nature is like grass relying on high ground. Though the rank of practice is humble, it has already surpassed the summit of the seven expedients. This illustrates repenting to obtain the Dharma-body. "The book says" refers to the Liuzi.
