Second, from "Briefly stated" onward indicates the methods of the auxiliary path. Auxiliaries originally assist the primary. When the primary contemplation does not open because it is covered by delusions regarding principle, one cultivates auxiliary practices to remedy phenomenal obstructions. If phenomenal obstructions cease, they will not substantiate delusions regarding principle, thus causing the primary contemplation to open and enter the gate of principle. Fully discussed, they are the six perfections; briefly cited, they are the three karmas. As for spurring contemplation, one may spur primary contemplation through the five dharmas, which also assists in opening the gate; or one may spur phenomenal contemplation, meaning that the five gates of dhyāna each have their specific remedies that assist in opening primary contemplation.
