Second, devas. The five signs of decay are: garments becoming soiled, flowers on the head withering, body smelling foul, perspiration under the armpits, and taking no delight in one's original seat. The four minds are sensation, perception, volition, and consciousness. Cage and fence: fan (樊) means fence (藩). The Shijing says: "Briskly buzzing blue flies / settle on the hedge." Now sentient beings dwelling in the three realms are like being inside a cage or fence, unable to get out on their own.
