初、直表三德。能觀之智既以夢示，夢必見相，故以金鼓表於所觀，即法性也。蓋由鼓體具圓、空、鳴、可表三德。其狀姝大、復彰三德無量甚深。

First, directly expressing the three virtues. Since the contemplating wisdom is shown through the dream, and a dream must behold marks, the golden drum expresses the contemplated object, which is Dharma nature. Because the substance of a drum possesses roundness, emptiness, and sounding, it can express the three virtues. Its shape being extraordinarily grand further reveals that the three virtues are immeasurable and extremely profound.
