初、約教釋。疏存二釋：初、約入觀出觀，此乃就法橫釋；次約伏惑斷惑，此乃就位竪釋。入觀本期登地斷惑，故知二釋其意相須也。言三十心者，借別顯圓也。

First, explaining according to the teaching. The commentary preserves two interpretations: first, according to entering contemplation and emerging from contemplation—this is a horizontal explanation in terms of dharmas; next, according to subduing delusions and severing delusions—this is a vertical explanation in terms of stages. Entering contemplation originally aims at ascending to the grounds and severing delusions; therefore we know that the meanings of the two interpretations are complementary. The mention of the "thirty minds" borrows the separate [teaching] to reveal the perfect [teaching].
