三、伸敬。信首為貴者，佛法大海以信得入。信是因人，以上求故，如首為貴。慈悲為賤者，拔苦與樂乃果人下化，故如足為賤。以貴敬賤者，以信扣慈也。經禮畢右繞，表戀慕。

Third, expressing respect. As for "the head of faith being venerable": one enters the great ocean of the Buddha Dharma by faith. Faith belongs to the person on the causal [stage]; because one seeks above, it is venerable like the head. As for "compassion being humble": pulling out suffering and bestowing bliss is the lower conversion performed by the person on the fruition [stage], and is therefore humble like the feet. Showing respect from the venerable to the humble means using faith to appeal to compassion. After bowing in the sūtra, he circumambulates to the right, which signifies yearning.
