二、法供養，二：初、分文立意。化他用慈，是無緣慈不離三智。自行順智既是佛智，豈離三慈？為令易解，相對說耳。法供養第一者，能令佛壽常住不斷、妙化無窮故也。又有法則二供俱成，無法則財供亦廢，是故法供得稱為最。

Second, the Dharma offering, in two parts: First, dividing the text and establishing the intent. Transforming others utilizes compassion; this is unconditioned compassion, which is not separate from the three wisdoms. One's own practice follows wisdom; since this is the Buddha's wisdom, how could it be separate from the three compassions? In order to make it easy to understand, they are spoken of in opposition to each other. The reason why the Dharma offering is foremost is that it can cause the Buddha's lifespan to abide permanently without interruption, and wondrous transformations to be inexhaustible. Furthermore, when there is the Dharma, both offerings are accomplished; when there is no Dharma, even the material offering falls away; therefore, the Dharma offering is called supreme.
