Second, from "from one..." onward, praise that transcends speech, which has two parts: first, dividing the text. Second, from "all..." onward, explaining accordingly, which has two parts: first, strictly transcending speech; second, from "further reiterating..." onward, reiterating the analogies to make them correspond. Question: The commentary's explanation of praise relying on words and praise transcending speech are both free from thought and discourse. Are they identical or different? Answer: The secret of the four virtues is originally free from mental conditions. The present praise is to enable sentient beings to enter the secret treasury; therefore, praise relying on words and praise transcending speech both demonstrate freedom from thoughts. Relying on words uses four analogies for the four virtues; since the analogies cannot be counted, they reveal that the virtues transcend conditions. The four in the praise transcending speech cannot serve as analogies, which also reveals that the four virtues transcend conditions and deliberations. The Great Master deeply penetrated the subtle principle of the sūtra text, and therefore explained both texts as transcending thought and discourse.
