初、明懺須得處。懺之所依，如器淳朴，非砧不成。以何為砧？謂一實相、無別實相，即罪相是。得此處者，罪無不滅、德無不顯。此自分二：

First, clarifying that repentance must attain its locus. That upon which repentance relies is like an unworked vessel: without an anvil, it cannot be formed. What serves as the anvil? It refers to the single true mark—there is no other true mark; it is the very mark of sin itself. One who attains this locus leaves no sin uneradicated and no virtue unmanifested.
