初、約四教詮空示。所言空者，破相為義，故一代教四空不同，若不辨之迷名昧理。此自分二：初、約部列四，二：

First, demonstrating by explaining emptiness according to the four teachings. What is called 'emptiness' has the refutation of characteristics as its meaning; hence, across the teachings of the Buddha's lifetime the four [teachings'] emptinesses differ. If one does not distinguish them, one will be deluded by the names and ignorant of the principle. This itself is divided into two: first, listing the four according to textual classes, in two parts:
