Second, from "Even if..." onward, also indicating the persons, which has two parts: first, clarifying the possession of wrong dhyāna and wisdom. "Long-Nails" is Koṭṭhita, the maternal uncle of Śāriputra. Diligent in study, he had no leisure to trim his nails, so people of the time called him the Long-Nails Brahmacārin. His faculties being the sharpest, he was preeminent among non-Buddhists, hence he is cited. Regarding "banding the belly with iron plates": the *Sāṃkhyakārikā-bhāṣya* says, "Among the Ulūka-Sāṃkhya non-Buddhists there was a group leader who went to the Golden Land wearing a fire-pot on his head and banding his belly with iron plates to debate with the monks." Regarding "refuting stones, etc.": Fascicle 26 of the *Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa* says, "Satyaka Nirgrantha-putra questioned and refuted people until trees, bricks, and stones sweated." Regarding "reaching Neither-Conceptualization": as Udraka Rāmaputra had reached the peak of existence, it says "about to emerge"; yet he fell back as a flying fox, hence it says "returning again."
