4.40

初、明證相。二乘雙非雖非中實，而離斷常、諦於真理，未至寶渚已到化城，寧不安隱？梵行等者，無學四智四中，但闕我生已盡，以滅度等當之乃足。由保此故，不求遍知。

First, clarifying the characteristics of realization. Although the double negation of the two vehicles is not the true Middle, it departs from annihilationism and eternalism, conforming to the true principle; before arriving at the treasure islet, they have already reached the conjured city—how could they not be at peace? As for 'brahmacarya' and so on: among the four knowledges of the non-learners, it only lacks 'my births are exhausted', but is sufficient when matched with extinction and the rest. Because they preserve this, they do not seek omniscient knowledge.
