5.22

次、「是經」下，三惡趣。諸河，三趣沈沒，猶如大河。焦乾枯竭者，滅三惡苦也。有經於「枯竭」上加「能令」二字者，妄也。

Next, from "this sūtra" onward, the three evil destinies. "Rivers": being submerged in the three destinies is like a great river. "Scorched dry and exhausted" means extinguishing the suffering of the three evil [destinies]. In some sūtras, the two characters "able to cause" (nengling) are added above "exhausted" (kujie); this is erroneous.
