Second, the two and a half lines from "Knowing the existent" praise the Buddha's Reward Body with respect to the wisdom and practice that can realize it, in three parts: First, in terms of Dharma: The two lines from "Knowing the existent" praise the reward wisdom. "Knowing" means illuminating. The existent is the conventional; the non-existent is the true; the fundamentally pure nature is the middle. Using the wisdom of all modes to know and illuminate the three truths, one then obscurely unites with the deep and accords with the vast, with phenomenal aspects and principle being thoroughly consummate; this is called the Buddha's unsurpassed reward wisdom. The two lines from "Rare" praise the virtues of the Buddha's auxiliary practices. Repeating "rare" is an earnestness of praise, and the same applies below. In the causal stage, the myriad practices of precepts and concentration have the power to eliminate obstacles and oppose evil, which is called "merit" (gong); assisting the arousal of great wisdom and achieving the Buddha's great fruition is called "virtue" (de). The Lotus Sūtra says "attained through long-cultivated practice," which is the unsurpassed reward; hence it is called the Tathāgata's virtue.
