Second, the praise pervades the three karmic activities. Zhang'an, on the basis of clarifying that in the present chapter the fruit Buddha rises from samādhi and is able to praise the excellent words of the causal persons, further examined the preceding text of the sūtra, where there is also the meaning of the fruit body paying homage to the relics. "Relics" (śarīra) translates as bone fragments, which are none other than the causal body. Above, in the "Chapter on Repentance," the Buddha praised the great repentance; in the "Chapter on Praising the Buddha," the Buddha praised Dragon Respect as a great praise—both are termed "great" because each repentance and each praise matches the great essence of the dharma nature, knowing that the nature of sin and blessing is empty. The "Chapter on the Four Heavenly Kings" can request, the "Chapter on Good Collection" can preach, the "Chapter on Ghosts and Spirits" and others can listen, and the "Chapter on Renouncing the Body" can practice; these are all "excellent words" because together they can understand that the signifier and the signified of the teaching of the Golden Light are the three: essence, principle, and function, which are all three dharmas; hence all are named "excellent words." Ruciraketu, Dragon Respect, the Four Kings, and so forth are all causal persons, so they are said to be spoken by the causal mouth. The character chan (pronounced shi-xian) means to manifest. The body and mouth do not act apart from the mind; hence it is said that "as a matter of course, they are modeled accordingly."
