First, generally explaining the intent. Now, the Dharma, reward, and responsive [bodies], along with "golden light" (suvarṇaprabhāsa), are all names for the intrinsic essence of the Dharma-nature, originally without superiority or inferiority. Because this sūtra specifically uses "gold" and so forth to reveal the Dharma-nature, the Buddha first proclaimed it as the title of the sūtra; thus "golden light" can serve as the principal source, and all threefold dharmas become its streams. Explaining the span of life in terms of gold must rely on the three bodies; fearing that people might form separate interpretations, he therefore shows the return to the principle.
