3.11

Second, from "The new and old" onward, clarifying the present view, in three parts: first, clarifying the principal theme and the substance based on the new translation of the sūtra, in three parts: first, the four Buddhas explain the trace to reveal the source, brushing aside the doubt about the brief eighty [years], and clarifying the long response of the ocean drops. Having heard that the response and transformation can be long or short, one penetrates that Dharmakāya and Saṃbhogakāya are neither extinguished nor born; once the source and trace are harmonized, deliberation and thought cease. Those of superior faculties, merely hearing the trace, also awaken to the original source. This corresponds to the first cycle.
