The first four turns are explanations shared with the Hīnayāna. 'Shared with the Hīnayāna' means that although the intent in explaining the three kinds of repentance through these four turns lies in the Mahāyāna, they have not yet made evident the characteristics distinguishing it from the Hīnayāna; consequently, there is no impediment to the eradication of evil being spoken of in terms of either the Greater or Lesser [Vehicles]; hence it is called 'shared with the Hīnayāna'.
