First, guiding the two functions. If one does not understand that the extremes are themselves emptiness, repentance will not be non-arising and the eradication of evil will not be exhaustive; praise will not accord with the nature and the generation of good will not be profound. Because good is not profound, how could the virtue of wisdom be completed? Because evil is not exhausted, how could the virtue of elimination be completed? Those of dull faculties did not awaken in the preceding sections, so in this chapter the wisdom of emptiness is expounded in a perfect manner, guiding the preceding repentance and praise so as to accomplish the two functions.
