贊曰：第八、降伏魔怨德。魔即四魔，軍即十軍，廣如《法苑．破魔章》辨。魔軍從化，勝敵先鳴。顯實開權，為擊法鼓。

Commentary: The eighth virtue: subjugating the enemies of Māra. 'Māra' refers to the four māras, and 'armies' refers to the ten armies, as extensively distinguished in the 'Chapter on Overcoming Māra' in the Fayuan zhulin. When the armies of Māra submit to transformation, the drum is sounded first before defeating the enemy. Revealing the real and opening the provisional constitutes beating the Dharma drum.
