贊曰：外緣苦。親友懷瞋恨，怨憎會苦。眷屬悉分離，愛別離苦。彼此共乖違下二句，求不得苦。

Commentary: This treats the suffering from external conditions. ‘Whose relatives and friends harbor hatred and resentment’ is the suffering of encountering what is hated. ‘Whose kin are all separated’ is the suffering of being separated from what is loved. ‘Who are in mutual discord with one another’ and the line below it are the suffering of not getting what one seeks.
