Explaining the capacities and natures benefited: first, explaining the capacities benefited; later, explaining how much benefit is attained. Regarding the capacities benefited, there are briefly two explanations. One says: It provides solely for Great Vehicle faculties and natures, which includes both determinate and indeterminate natures, because there are śrāvakas present. Why does it not provide for determinate śrāvakas and others? The answer: According to the *Lotus Sūtra* and the *Mahāratnakūṭa-śāstra*, "The reason why śrāvakas asked was for the sake of the undertakings of śrāvaka people." In this sūtra, the initial questioner is Bodhisattva Ruciraketu, and he only asked about the Tathāgata's lifespan, broadly explaining the three bodies; thus we know it is solely for bodhisattva faculties and natures. As for the benefits attained below being described as "leaving defilement and removing impurity" and so on: according to the *Mahāyānasūtrālaṅkāra*, entering the first bhūmi is also called attaining the purification of the Dharma-eye, so it does not refer solely to śrāvakas. Another says: Since it is the teaching of the third period, it provides generally for all five vehicles; the assembly lists śrāvakas, and there is also "leaving defilement and removing impurity". According to the *Yogācārabhūmi*, the text on attaining the fruit of stream-entry is not definitive, so it may provide generally. However, within the main body it is solely for bodhisattvas; from the "Chapter of the Four Heavenly Kings" onward, it can provide generally for the others, because all are caused to attain the fruits of humans and devas. Between the two explanations, the latter is superior, because it is admitted to be subsumed under the wheel of Dharma of the third period.
