第一、經之起因，復有其二：一、通起因；二、別起因。通謂通諸經，別謂局此教。

First, the reasons for the sūtra's origination are further twofold: 1. the general reasons for origination; 2. the specific reasons for origination. 'General' refers to what applies to all sūtras; 'specific' refers to what is confined to this teaching.
