Commentary: The four Buddhas send their request. The text is divided into three parts: first, the four Buddhas come together; next, they dispatch attendants to convey their request; finally, the attendants convey the message. This is the first. Question: When the four Buddhas were about to go to Ruciraketu's chamber, his chamber suddenly transformed into thrones; when they went to the mountain, no transformation of thrones is mentioned—how were the four Buddhas accommodated? Answer: Here it must be that Śākyamuni transformed thrones, but the text briefly omits mentioning it. Question: Why is it that upon arriving at Ruciraketu's chamber the four Buddhas transformed them themselves, but upon coming to the Vulture Peak it was Śākyamuni who transformed them? Answer: An inferior person cannot anticipate the coming of superiors, therefore the four Buddhas transformed them themselves; Śākyamuni was able to know the Buddhas' arrival, therefore he transformed thrones to accommodate them.
