2.145

贊曰：聞佛入滅悲哀。此即聞前示現般涅槃亦示相。謂佛欲般涅槃，故現流淚。如《涅槃經》第一卷說悲苦等相。鼻所流為涕，目所出為淚，兩相雜落為交流。

Commentary: Sorrow upon hearing of the Buddha's entering extinction. This means that hearing the earlier manifestation of parinirvāṇa, he also manifests signs. That is, because the Buddha wished to enter parinirvāṇa, he manifested streaming tears. It is as the first fascicle of the *Nirvāṇa Sūtra* describes the signs of sorrow and grief. What flows from the nose is mucus, what comes from the eyes is tears; when both fall mingled together, it is 'streaming down together'.
