Commentary: Praising his virtues. 'Koṭi': according to the Abhidharmakośa-śāstra, ten million (shiyi) is one koṭi. According to the Avataṃsaka-sūtra's chapter 'The Bodhisattva Cittarāja Inquires about the Asaṃkhyeyas', ten thousand ten thousands make an 'yi', and an 'yi' times 'yi' makes one 'juli'; 'juli' is koṭi, the sound being slightly corrupted. 'Immeasurable' is a number name. With immeasurable numbers counting koṭis and nayutas: counting ten thousands as one wan, a hundred thousands corresponds to ten wan, which means an immeasurable number of koṭis of nayutas. One hundred thousand Buddhas: according to the Abhidharmakośa-śāstra, one hundred thousand is one yi; the Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa takes ten million as an yi; the Avataṃsaka-sūtra takes ten thousand ten thousands as an yi. These numbers are of three kinds: small, medium, and large. The Kośa, Upadeśa, and Avataṃsaka follow the small, medium, and large counts respectively; here it is not fixed. 'Served' means drew near to. 'Made offerings' means practiced the ten kinds of offerings. 'Roots of goodness' means merit and wisdom. 'Planted' means sowed.
