Commentary: The second major section is the Tathāgata's reply. The text is divided into four: first, commanding him to listen and consenting to explain; next, answering regarding the fruit; next, from 'Furthermore, good man, if a good man' downward, answering the question on practice; finally, from 'Furthermore, good man, this dharmakāya' downward, concluding the preceding cause and fruit and informing the audience so they may know. This is the first. Regarding 'Listen attentively, listen attentively, and reflect on it well,' Bodhisattva Guṇaprabha's Vajracchedikā-śāstra explains: ''Listening attentively' means the mind is focused on a single object. 'Well' means generating faith without doubt in the meaning conforming to principle. 'Reflect on it' means respectfully retaining it without forgetting.' Paramārtha explains: ''Listening attentively' generates wisdom derived from hearing. Wisdom derived from hearing is free from the fault of distraction, like making a vessel. 'Reflecting well' generates wisdom derived from reflection. Because wisdom derived from reflection is respectful and free from heedlessness, it is like a sound vessel. 'Reflect on it' generates wisdom derived from cultivation. Because wisdom derived from cultivation can gather mindfulness and is free from error, it is like a clean vessel.'
