The commentary says: The fourth section, the section on counteracting obstacles and establishing [the bodies], has two parts: first regarding the object, and next regarding the mind. This regards the object. The text is divided into two: first clarifying that having obstacles prevents obtaining the three bodies, and later clarifying obtaining them through severance. The first text is divided into four: first presenting the thesis, second questioning, third listing, and fourth explaining. This presents the thesis. The three characteristics are the three natures, being the characteristics of objects that ought to be known. The Mahāyānasaṃgraha states that these three natures are called the superior characteristics of what ought to be known. Having bonds is based on active manifestations; having obstacles regards seeds. Alternatively, having bonds means the bond of characteristics, or the object-conditions of association. This regards not understanding the three natures; therefore there are bonds and obstacles. Obstacles are the three obstacles and so forth; because of this, they are far removed and do not attain the three bodies.
