2.77

贊曰：欲令生善得菩提故。異生外道，即所為人，簡諸入地大菩薩眾。初地已上更見長故，非不現滅。

The commentary says: This is because [the Buddha] wishes to cause them to generate goodness and attain bodhi. Ordinary beings and non-Buddhists are the persons intended, setting aside the assemblies of great bodhisattvas who have entered the grounds (bhūmi). For those on the first ground and above see an even longer [lifespan]; it is not that [the Buddha] does not manifest cessation for them.
