Commentary: Below is the explanation. 'Transcending all marks': because their self-nature is superior, they are free from the ten marks—namely, the six sense-objects, male, female, arising, and ceasing. 'Do not cling to marks': because they are free from all attachments. 'Cannot be conceptualized': because they are beyond mind and speech. 'Neither eternal nor annihilated': because they are free from the two extremes. Here there are four [points]: first, freedom from marks; second, non-attachment; third, being beyond the domain of mind and speech; fourth, freedom from the two extremes. Due to these four meanings, it is called the object of the Middle Way. When it accords with correct wisdom, correct wisdom is called the Middle Way, and the object of the Middle Way is also called the Middle Way.
