3.119

贊曰：望得涅槃，為離繫果。得常樂我淨如作鐶釧等，然不失真如性。若望菩提，總士用果。諸鐶釧等，即定智生一切功德，能不失定慧性，竝如金不改。上來大段科解相貌，看行相漸深求遠意，亦應允當。若依古釋，即譬喻下，屬下修行。初喻、次法，準舊可知。修行文下自有譬喻，故不依古。

Commentary: In relation to attaining nirvāṇa, it is the fruit of disjunction (visaṃyogaphala). Attaining permanence, bliss, self, and purity is like making armlets, bracelets, and so forth, yet without losing the nature of tathatā. In relation to bodhi, it is overall the result of human effort (puruṣakāraphala). The various armlets and bracelets are all the virtues produced by concentration and wisdom, able to remain without losing the nature of concentration and wisdom, just as gold does not change. The structural division and explanation of the characteristics given in the major section above, looking to the gradual deepening of the phases of practice and seeking a profound meaning, should also be fitting. According to older commentaries, the section from the simile onward belongs to the cultivation below, with the simile first and the doctrine second, as is known from the older texts. But since there are similes within the passage on cultivation itself, I do not follow the older view.
