The Commentary says: The sixth repents [karma created] through drawing near to evil friends and minor secondary afflictions. Hoarding without letting go, stingy and miserly, is called stinginess (mātsarya). Being unable to bear the glory of others, envious and spiteful, is called jealousy (īrṣyā). To ensnare others and deviously comply with their desires is called flattery (śāṭhya). Harboring ulterior designs in mind and deceptively presenting oneself as possessing virtue is called deceit (māyā).
