The Commentary states: Here there are three virtues: the first line praises the virtue of the thirty-two marks; the next line praises the virtue of the eighty secondary characteristics; the second half-verse praises the virtue of maturing sentient beings. As the *Mahālaṃkāra-śāstra* says: "Just like the blazing sun, the generation of the mind endowed with the four means of embracing is also like this; just as the sun ripens crops, it matures sentient beings." As the *Ekottarikāgama* says: "There are four things about the rising of the sun: first, when the sun rises, all darkness is dispelled; second, farmers go to work; third, hundreds of birds all sing; fourth, infants weep. The Buddha addressed the bhikṣus: 'When the sun rises and all darkness is dispelled, this is an analogy for the Buddha appearing in the world, dispelling the darkness of ignorance, with none among the human kind left unilluminated. Working the fields in common is an analogy for the dānapatis, the benefactors, providing robes, food and drink, mats, bedding, and medicine for illness in accordance with the seasons. The singing of hundreds of birds is an analogy for the highly virtuous Dharma masters and others being able to explain the subtle Dharma for the fourfold assembly. The weeping of infants is an analogy for the wicked Māra seeing the Buddha appear in the world and feeling great sorrow and distress.'"
