Sūtra: / "Just as the measure of water in the great ocean is hard to know, / And the subtle dust particles of the great earth cannot be counted, / Just as the wonderful high mountain cannot be weighed, / And just as empty space has no boundary, / So too are the merits of all Buddhas: / All sentient beings are incapable of knowing them. / Though one contemplate them carefully for immeasurable kalpas, / None can know the shore of the ocean of their virtues. / Even if all the mountains of this great earth / Could be broken down into subtle dust particles and calculated, / And the drops of water in the ocean measured by a hair's tip, / Still no one could enumerate the virtues of a Buddha. / All sentient beings praise together / The fame and all the virtues of the World-Honoured One; / Their pure primary and secondary signs are wonderfully adorned, / Beyond weighing or knowing their limits."
