Commentary: Resolving. Because the principle of tathatā transcends the characteristics of arising and ceasing. “Transcending” means being free from; it departs from the characteristics of arising and ceasing, and departs from the domain of verbal expression. Therefore the Sūtra of Immeasurable Meanings says: “Signlessness has no sign, hence it is called signlessness.” The Mahāyānasaṃgraha also says: “Because of the equality of being without dual characteristics,” and so on. The Sūtra on the Meditation on Samantabhadra says: “Taking this body and mind like wind in empty space, abiding in the principle of signlessness, taking refuge in tathatā and all the Three Jewels. For those who practice this repentance, body and mind are pure; not abiding in phenomena, like flowing water, in thought after thought they see the Buddhas of the ten directions,” and so forth.
