Commentary: Great nirvāṇa without remainder directly clarifies the Dharma body. The pure and impure natures are in substance tathatā, which is called the 'single taste'. Realizing this single taste through non-conceptual wisdom is the direct cause of nirvāṇa, and therefore he is able to attain the extremely pure, supreme Dharma body. Complete quiescence without remainder is named 'utmost purity'. It transcends the causal stages and is attained only by buddhas. Non-abiding applies to the causes: although it is pure, because hindrances are not yet exhausted, it is not yet the most pure.
