The commentary says: Because on the fifth ground one attains the higher wisdom corresponding to the truths, one can subdue harmful companions—afflictions such as greed—which is collectively called subduing all afflictions. Because meditative cultivation is superior, one attains superior dhyāna and pours forth a stream of merits. "Stream" refers to the eight liberations; hence the Avataṃsaka Sūtra says: "The dharmas of the eight liberations stream forth pure, wondrous water." Or, having obtained superior meditative absorption, one can expound all the merits of meditation. Because on the sixth ground one practices prajñā, one can shatter the great diamond mountain of ignorance that obstructs the sun.
