4.227

贊曰：誨也。無明障上句造惡中心。下句受苦果無明障聖。眼翳瞙，智心盲。冥者闇也，不見真理故云冥。又為貪欲之所覆心，不知出離，但造惡業。所以造惡，由不見真理故。惡業既作，故受眾苦。

Commentary: 'Instructs.' Ignorance obscuring: the upper line speaks of the mind that commits evil; the lower line speaks of receiving suffering retribution. Ignorance obscuring the noble [vision]: eyes clouded with cataracts, the mind of wisdom is blind. 'Darkened' (冥) means obscure (闇); because they do not see the true principle, it is called darkened. Furthermore, their minds are covered by greed and desire, so they do not know how to escape and merely create evil karma. The reason they create evil is because they do not see the true principle. Once evil karma is committed, they undergo manifold suffering.
