4.311

贊曰：美人令其修學。有八：初標持人、二有大福、三逢諸佛、四殖善根、五具尸羅、六無障礙、七入正定聚、八入甚深法則決定能入住正定位。長取決定能入甚深法門，即為第八。或但為七，合第七八為能證不退。

Commentary: This praises the person to cause them to practice and learn. There are eight [aspects]: first, identifying the person upholding it; second, possessing great merit; third, meeting Buddhas; fourth, planting roots of good; fifth, possessing the precepts (śīla); sixth, being devoid of obstacles; seventh, entering the group of determined rectitude (samyaktvaniyata-rāśi); eighth, entering the profoundly deep Dharma, which means they will decisively be able to enter and abide in the station of determined rectitude. If one takes the extended clause 'decisively be able to enter the profoundly deep Dharma-gate', that forms the eighth. Alternatively, there are only seven, combining the seventh and eighth into the ability to realize non-retrogression.
