Commentary: Presenting the reason why one cannot speak of oneness or difference. 'Free from the two characteristics': because it is free from these pairs of characteristics such as permanence and impermanence, existence and non-existence, arising and ceasing. 'Not clinging to the two extremes': being far removed from superimposition and deprecation. The self and dharmas, the two, do not exist—this is freedom from superimposition; the nature of emptiness and suchness is not non-existent—this is freedom from deprecation. 'Invisible': it is not the realm of the five consciousnesses. 'Beyond what is seen': it transcends the realm of false conceptualization by the mental consciousness. 'Without name': free from the expressing [words]. 'Without characteristic': free from the expressed [meanings].
