Commentary: This is the analogy. The seven treasures illustrate the seven noble riches (sapta āryadhanāni), or the seven factors of awakening (bodhyaṅga). As Fascicle 10 of the Mahāyānasūtrālaṅkāra says: "Mindfulness is like the wheel treasure subduing unsubdued realms, because mindfulness can subdue unsubdued sensory realms. Investigation is like the elephant treasure, because an elephant can subdue powerful enemy states; investigation can destroy the superior enemy of discrimination. Energy is like the horse treasure, because a horse swiftly reaches the distant ends of the earth; energy swiftly realizes the ultimate limit of tathatā. Joy is like the jewel treasure, because the jewel's radiance illuminates the darkness and the king rejoices greatly; the light of Dharma destroys darkness and the mind's joy is filled. Pliancy is like the woman treasure, because the king experiences pleasure when touched by the woman; wisdom is freed from hindrances and parsimony, and pliancy puts an end to evils. Concentration is like the treasurer, because whatever the king requires is produced from the minister; whatever use wisdom has is born from concentration. Equanimity is like the military commander, who discards the weak and takes up the strong, following the king without weariness; when cultivating, the bodhisattva discards evil and adopts good, effortlessly following non-conceptual wisdom." This sūtra is like the king; the merits are like the treasures.
