4.62

下喻發修方便善巧心因。文亦有三：一猶如商主多巧方便，有二功能：一能知道路、二引至寶所令求願滿。二「此心能度」下法合。由迴向方便、拔濟方便，度生死道，獲大菩提功德珍寶，不同二乘趣於寂滅。釋通自他及因等言，皆準前知。結文可知。

Below illustrates the cause of the mind that generates and cultivates skill-in-means. The text also has three parts: first, like a caravan leader possessing many skillful means, having two functions: first, knowing the road; second, leading to the place of treasures to fulfill desired wishes. Second, from "because this mind can cross" downward is the application to the dharma. Through the upāya of dedication and the upāya of rescue, one crosses the path of saṃsāra and obtains the precious gems of the merits of mahābodhi, unlike the two vehicles that proceed toward cessation. The explanation connecting self, other, cause, and so forth should all be understood according to the preceding. The concluding text is self-evident.
