The sūtra: "Because one first realizes the supramundane mind, attaining now what was never attained before, and accomplishes in accordance with one's wishes all great undertakings and functions, giving rise to supreme joy, the very first is therefore called Joyous. Because all subtle defilements and transgressions of moral discipline are purified, the second stage is therefore called Immaculate. Because the radiant light of measureless wisdom and samādhi cannot be shaken or vanquished, and takes the retention dhāraṇī as its root, the third stage is therefore called Luminous. Because the fire of wisdom burns away all afflictions, increasing radiance and cultivating the factors of awakening, the fourth stage is therefore called Radiant. Because practicing skillful means and sovereign superior wisdom is exceedingly difficult to attain, and afflictions abandoned by seeing and cultivating are hard to subdue but can be subdued, the fifth stage is therefore called Hard to Conquer. Because the continuous practice of phenomena is clearly revealed and signless reflection completely presents itself, the sixth stage is therefore called Present. Because one cultivates from afar the uncontaminated, uninterrupted, signless reflection, the liberation samādhi, and this stage is pure and free from obstacles, the seventh stage is therefore called Far-Going. Because one attains mastery in cultivating signless reflection and the activities of all afflictions cannot move it, the eighth stage is therefore called Immovable. Because one attains mastery and is free from trouble and burden in expounding all phenomena in their various distinctions, increasing wisdom that is sovereign and unhindered, the ninth stage is therefore called Good Wisdom. Because the Dharma body is like empty space and wisdom is like a great cloud, both able to universally pervade and cover everything, the tenth is therefore called Cloud of Dharma."
