下問答名體,初問、後答。問中有二:一問名義。是何句義,是意云何名無著等?復因何義,句是能詮之名非名句中名。已下問體,以諸法體即是真如,非有非空等,不可言說。如何可說此陀羅尼?非方處者離有,非非方處者離空。準下佛答,有其七句,此略舉初句為問,以影於餘。或舍利分悟、世尊具悟,故說有多少。
Below are the questions and answers on the name and essence, first the question, then the answer. Within the question there are two parts: first, asking about the meaning of the name. "What phrase-meaning is it?" means: with what intent is it called "Undefiled" and so forth? Furthermore, based on what meaning? "Phrase" is an expressive designation, not a word among nominal terms. Next is asking about the essence: since the essence of all dharmas is tathatā, neither existent nor empty, etc., it cannot be spoken. How can this dhāraṇī be spoken of? "Neither a spatial location" is free from existence; "nor not a spatial location" is free from emptiness. According to the Buddha's answer below, there are seven phrases; here he briefly raises the first phrase as a question to imply the rest. Or Śāriputra had partial realization while the World-Honoured One had complete realization, hence the explanation varies in length.
