5.55

贊曰：廣明護相。初護法、後護人。此護法。令他敬法必須自尊，自若不行何以勸物？是故我等潛護斯經。

Commentary: Extensively explaining the marks of protection: first, protecting the Dharma; second, protecting persons. This is protecting the Dharma. To cause others to revere the Dharma, one must respect it oneself; if one does not practice it oneself, how can one encourage beings? Therefore, we secretly protect this sūtra.
