下第四領悟依學。問：此品既云為除大眾疑諸天子得記所因，如何領云大眾悟解由大慈悲行諸苦行方得菩提？答：準結會中但結天子，明知但為除大眾疑天子得記所以。云解由行大慈悲等得菩提者，是傍義故。又知十千亦行苦行等，後方得菩提，故皆行學。

Next, the fourth [section], comprehending and relying on it to practice. Question: Since this chapter is said to remove the assembly's doubt concerning the cause for which the devaputras received predictions, why does the comprehension state that the assembly understood that one attains bodhi only by practicing great compassion and performing ascetic practices? Answer: According to the connection [of past and present], it only links the devaputras; thus it is clear that it was solely to remove the assembly's doubt regarding why the devaputras received predictions. The statement about understanding that bodhi is attained by practicing great compassion and so forth is a secondary meaning. Furthermore, knowing that the ten thousand [devaputras] also practiced asceticism and so forth before they could attain bodhi, they all practiced and trained [accordingly].
