"Chapter on the Bodhisattva Ruciraketu's Praise": the occasion for its occurrence is the same as before. Regarding the explanation of the name: in Sanskrit it is called ruciraketu; rucira means "wondrous" (miao) and ketu means "banner" (zhuang). That is, his superior wisdom stands loftily prominent, likened to the cultivation of a tall banner, and because it uniquely transcends defiling burdens it is praised as "wondrous". As the banner is itself praised as wondrous, he is named Wondrous Banner (Ruciraketu); this is a karmadhāraya compound. Established as an epithet from a metaphor, he is called Wondrous Banner. The old [translation] called him Faith-Mark (Xinxiang). As for "mark", in Sanskrit it is yaṣṭi; now since it is said to be ruciraketu, it is translated as "banner". The nature of faith is pure, and its meaning is similar to "wondrous"; a banner is high and manifest, and thus [the earlier translation] mistakenly called it "mark". As for resolving difficulties: Question: When hearing the Dharma and receiving predictions, it was not only Ruciraketu; why does the praise alone highlight this master? Answer: Because he is the foremost.
