For the Entrustment Chapter, there is an analysis in two parts. Regarding the reason for its occurrence: from the 'Four Heavenly Kings Chapter' onward, it clarifies the propagation section, which has three parts. Above, having already urged that learning and practice be propagated, the assembly, upon hearing what was expounded, gave rise to joy and praise; therefore, now thirdly it is appropriate to entrust it, so that they may further protect and transmit it to later generations. Hence this chapter arises after the previous one. Regarding the explanation of the name: 'entrust' (fu) means to give; 'charge' (zhu) means to commission. Commissioning them with the Dharma and handing it down to make them protect it and propagate it to later generations, it is therefore called 'Entrustment.'
