The Dharma of these one hundred and eight propositions encompasses the five dharmas, the three svabhāvas, the eight consciousnesses, and the two kinds of selflessness; the Dharmas taught by all Buddhas do not go beyond this. From here downward, the concluding pointers to the various propositions cause people, one by one, to break through emotional attachments and dispel fixations, which is why all are called "non-propositions." As the *Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra* states: "At that time, the Bodhisattva-Mahāsattva Mahāmati addressed the Buddha, saying: 'World-Honoured One! What are the one hundred and eight propositions?' The Buddha said: 'Mahāmati! They are the proposition of arising, the proposition of non-arising,' and so forth."
